ABOUT
This site will focus on collage making and ideas for activities appropriate for children in regard to collage making. I have created three lesson plans for children of different ages. The ages I have created lesson plans for are children aged 0-2, 3-5 and 6-8.
WHAT IS COLLAGE?
Collage is a technique which is commonly used in visual arts. The artwork is made by assembling different forms together, therefore creating a new whole. To create a collage many different materials can be used. Some examples of these are coloured or handmade paper, photographs and newspaper clippings. These objects are then glued to a surface. Creating collages are good for children as it allows them to be creative as well as working on their cutting and pasting skills.

ERIC CARLE
I have chosen Eric Carle as my focus artist as he is well known for his collage technique. His specialty is using hand painted papers, with which he cuts and then layers to form bright and colourful images which children love. Carle is well known for his work on the book 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' which was published in 1969. The picture book has few words therefore uses the illustrations to tell the majority of the story. My chosen activities are all a reflection on Eric Carle's work.
